Position Summary
The Host Home Provider (HHP) offers a safe, stable, and supportive home environment for LGBTQIA+ young adults ages 18–21. This role combines lived experience peer support, ensuring that Roommates have access to housing, life-skills support, and a substance-free community setting. HHP collaborates closely with SPLASH staff and are compensated through a living stipend equal to room and board, hourly leadership pay, and many program benefits.
Qualifications
- Lived experience as LGBTQI+ (required).
- Lived experience with homelessness and/or adverse childhood experiences (ACE’s).
- Ages 19–21 preferred; applicants up to age 24 may be considered. Must be in a peer age range for Roommates.
- Willingness to participate in peer programming, accountability, and trauma-informed conflict resolution.
- Ability to have difficult conversations and hold peers accountable to agreed-upon goals and objectives.
- Physical ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs and navigate stairs. Some basic household problem solving is preferred but will train as needed.
- Clear, open communication skills with peers and staff.
- Licensed driver with access to a vehicle within 30 days (mileage reimbursed at federal rate). Proof of insurance required.
- Substance-free on property, including nicotine, cannabis, alcohol, and other substances.
- Knowledge of systemic inequities impacting LGBTQIA+ youth and willingness to continue learning about the spectrum of transgender experiences.
- Ability to balance outside employment, classes, or vocational training with HHP responsibilities (requires being home 3–4 evenings each week). Students welcome if experience aligns.
Note: All necessary training provided. 24/7 staff support available. Confidentiality and HIPAA compliance required.
Responsibilities
Provide a clean, safe, private, and substance-free living space for Roommates. Ensure access to meals and snacks for adequate nutrition.
Offer limited, pre-agreed transportation for roommates to community resources (such as the food bank), job interviews, and/or medical appointments.
Promote respectful, substance-free, and harassment-free shared living. Communicate regularly with SPLASH staff about Roommate well-being. Report safety concerns or incidents immediately. Uphold confidentiality and follow all SPLASH policies. Limited scope mandated reporting.
SPLASH will provide training, guidance, and 24/7 on-call support. Maintain oversight of applications, referrals, and agreements for Roommates.
Offer resources, case management, and coaching to both HHP and Roommates. Provide coverage for short-term supervision as needed.
Compensation & Benefits
- Living Stipend: $1,200/month (covers rent, utilities, Wi-Fi, laundry, parking, and groceries).
- Hourly Pay: $25/hour for approx. 6 hours/week of direct leadership.
- Housing: Large corner-lot furnished home with private bedroom (master-sized), shared bathroom, community areas, kitchen, and backyard. Basic bedroom furnishings available.
- Time Off: One overnight off weekly or one long weekend off monthly.
- Additional Benefits: Access to external peer support, case management, LGBTQIA+ programming, coaching, and all resources available to Roommates.
- Reimbursements: Mileage and pre-approved expenses with receipts.
Training & Background Checks
HHP must complete an annual background check (criminal and motor vehicle records). *Sex-related and violent charges will be disqualifying for this position.*
SPLASH provides comprehensive training, including but not limited to:
